Chestnut House is a great place to begin your Smoky Mountain adventures. Enjoy tubing and fishing in the riverside community of Bethel, near Canton, North Carolina. Chestnut House is located in a secluded cabin community near the trout-stocked West Fork Pigeon River (a fishing permit is required). Take a scenic drive winding your way upstream along Highway 215, past Lake Logan and into the Pisgah National Forest where you'll discover waterfalls, the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and an access point to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Marker 423. Outdoor activities in the area include whitewater rafting, kayaking, fly fishing, and hiking trails such as the Rose Walk around Lake Junaluska and the Cataloochee Divide Trail. In season, you'll find herds of elk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (45 min). Nearby Interstate 40 takes you into Asheville, where you can catch a show at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort (40 min) and check out popular attractions such as the Biltmore Estate and River Arts District. Groceries and many dining options are ten miles down the road in downtown Canton. In addition to local attractions, the Cherokee Casino is less than an hour from the property, and the Cataloochee Ski Area is 45 minutes away. Chestnut House is located in a quiet mountain neighborhood. This home is under a noise ordinance between 9:00 p.m. and 8 a.m. and has a very low noise tolerance. Please be mindful that noise travels far in the mountains.
Firewood is not provided for guest use. If you plan on using the wood-burning amenities, please purchase wood locally upon arrival.
