Great location to see Black Bears 5/5 Stayed Aug 2022 Fred O. Clean comfortable and very well stocked with all needed items . Published Sep 4, 2022 A week in Smokey Mountains with the family 4/5 Stayed Jul 2022 Joanne B. The cabin is tucked away on the Smokey Mountains. About 15 mins down the mountain to Gatlinburg. The roads are narrow and steep, bigger vehicles might have a harder time. Our F350 pickup had a hard time turning in the driveway and often we had to back down the road to let other cars pass. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need (some pans could probably be retired-they've seen better days), we bought a pizza slicer for future guests. :) There was enough towels for all 6 of us, just washed them a few times to reuse. There is a washer and dryer and detergent and softner available. There was enough TP for the week, but I would recommend bringing more paper towels, there was only 1. The hot tub is large enough for 6 people, but also has seen better days. On day 2 we had errors on it, I reached out 3 times during our stay to get someone out to fix it, but no one ever came. We tried to problem solve and clean the filter out, but unfortunately it was a short term fix and the water just got cold. Access to 3 pools in Chalet Village. All were clean and had other things to do there as well (pool tables, tennis courts, foosball table, basketball). Bring your own swim towels. As far as the bears, we saw a minimum of 3 a day! They usually come around 7/8 am and then again around 5/6 pm. One would come to the backyard daily. We saw one open a car door using it's teeth, so make sure you lock your doors! Also, saw one climbing on the back of a pickup truck trying to get it open. The biggest one was about 400 lbs, when we were sitting on the back deck and it started coming towards the steps of the house. Fortunately, our dog noticed first and alerted us, otherwise it may have just joined us for drinks and the view on the back deck! LOL Overall, we loved Tennessee. We loved how the cabin was tucked away in the mountains away from the busy strip. The view was amazing and it had plenty of room for us and our 4 kids. We loved spending nights hanging out playing cards or pool. Suggestions: update hot tub or at least leave extra filters/ chlorine tabs etc. The TVs in the bottom bedrooms did not have remotes, so the channels needed to be changed manually. Maybe leave an info book in the cabin (wifi password, how to use the hot tub, what to do in the event of emergency) We had two bad thunderstorms at night where the lights flickered, maybe some flashlights in case the power goes out. Other than that, thanks for the great memories! Published Aug 26, 2022 Host’s response: Thank you for staying with us! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the property and your time. We hope to see you again soon. The house was great. We had bears visit every day. The view of Gatlinburg was beautiful. 4/5 Stayed Jul 2022 Joan R. We had a wonderful family vacation. The ride to town was a bit treacherous. We had bears come up on the deck walked right up to my husband. They were not aggressive thankfully! The kitchen had everything we needed & the master had a very comfy bed. Published Aug 9, 2022 Host’s response: Thank you for booking with Ocean Reef! We love to hear about great experiences such as yours. Be sure to contact us when you are ready to return! Up on top of Gatlinburg 5/5 Stayed Jul 2022 Melissa B. Overall we had a great experience and enjoyed the cabin. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook all week. The table and couch are huge and easily accommodated us all. Upon arrival two sections of the couch wouldn't recline like they should have so we fixed that. (Hopefully they can stay fixed for awhile for others to enjoy) The cabin is 15 minutes from Gatlinburg straight up the mountain, but we never had any issues getting up or down the mountain. The driveway was fun to learn to navigate and you could see where someone else had messed up trying to get into the driveway and they hit the light post. For us and our bigger SUV we learned it was much easier to slightly pull into the driveway across from ours to back down into ours. The hot tub and pool table were a nice touch for have in the evenings after we had returned from town. The hot tub is older and missing all the head rests but not a big deal. However, you can see where the lack of maintenance is occurring on the back deck around the hut tub the most. The outside of the hot tub is greatly deteriorating and there is a lot of evidence or a wood eating insect eating at the outside of the hot tub and deck around the hot tub. You can tell this isn't a new issue by how deteriorated things are and by some of the size of the holes. There is a baseball size hole in the corner closet to the door under the front corner of the hot tub. The other downside for us, was how muggy the lower level got. We got a decent amount of rain off and on all week and you can feel the moisture on the lower lever. Something a dehumidifier could easily fix. Now for the bears!! I was pretty excited about seeing bears at the cabin based off of others reviews. We saw a few throughout the week on our trips up and down the mountain, but didn't have one come to the cabin until right as we were leaving. We loaded the SUV, strapped the kids in their carseats to run back in to grap the trash only to open the front door to see a bear standing on the back of my SUV. I booked it back inside, locked the door and grabbed the keys to ensure my SUV was also locked. I tried setting off my car alarm to scare the bear away but he only walked up onto the front porch. After a few minutes he walked back down to my SUV again and again I set off the car alarm. This time the bear ran off. I ran probably the fastest I ever have to put the trash in the bins and back to the SUV for us to leave. Fun and terrifying! Our operations team will work diligently to have all matters resolved as soon as possible. Thank you for being our guest. Grand View says it all 5/5 Stayed May 2022 kari y. Everything about our stay at Grand View was great. It looked just as pictured, I went off of recent reviews so there were no surprises. The cabin was beautiful and the view was spectacular. We had at least one bear come to our cabin everyday, one came a little too close for comfort the first day and tried getting in the front door, we caught him in time but forgot to lock our car doors and left our cooler outside so he stole our cooler and got into our car. Lesson learned! I was able to scare it off but he was a big boy of at least 400 pounds! The rest were smaller. We just kept our guard up after that and stood guard whenever we grilled because they will come when you cook! The only downside was the pools weren’t open yet and the top bunk is really hard but we brought a mattress topper for our daughter otherwise you probably couldn’t sleep on it alone. The rest of the beds were fine tho. The pool table was alot of fun and the hot tub was perfect. Couldn’t beat the location, so close to town while still being deep in the mountain. I will miss this place, we didn’t want to leave! Would definitely come again. Published Jun 5, 2022 Host’s response: Thank you for booking with Ocean Reef!
